
AY 2024-2025 Center for Global Studies + EDGE Awards
Exclusively for Penn State Faculty
The Center is contributing funds for purchasing EDGE teaching materials and for EDGE mini-grants. These awards are designed to support the teaching and professional development of PSU faculty as they create and implement their individual projects.
This form can be used to apply for both awards, either submitted individually or together.
EDGE Teaching Materials:
- Awards up to $250 each for classroom materials defined as “supplies” (tangible personal property)
- Example: C40 2K Video Conference Webcam with Microphone and Speaker
- Note: CGS has final approval of teaching material
- Note: Subscriptions to virtual classroom experiences are permissible
EDGE Mini-Grants:
- Registration fees up to $500 each for workshops or conferences related to COIL/virtual exchange, global learning, or intercultural knowledge and competence
- Examples: International Virtual Exchange Consortium (IVEC) Conference 2024 registration, 2024-2025 AAC&U-CILMAR Global Learning Webinar Series registration
- Note: Priority given to those presenting at conference about EDGE project or EDGE research
Timeline:
- Application review begins September 3, 2024, and recipients are notified on a rolling basis
- Applications accepted through July 11, 2025, or until all awards are distributed

AY 2024-2025 EDGE Faculty Awards
Exclusively for Penn State Faculty
Six (6) $500 awards for the completion of an EDGE project

- Preference given to:
- First-time EDGE award applicants
- Partnerships introduced through the EDGE Collaboration System
- EDGE projects completed in languages other than English
- Projects with Penn State Global Strategic Partners (Monash University, University of Auckland, University of Freiburg)
- Preference given to:
Three (3) $500 awards to support external conference presentation or publication about an EDGE project

- Presentation/publication with international partner
- Publication in open access journal

EDGE Project Award Requirements:
- Submit the AY 2024-2025 EDGE Faculty Awards application form.
- Forward department head email providing approval of EDGE project to Tracy.Coleman@psu.edu.
- Forward International partner email providing confirmation of participation in EDGE project to Tracy.Coleman@psu.edu.
EDGE Project Award Timeline:
If provisionally selected, faculty must complete the EDGE project and submit the EDGE Post-Project Form by Friday, June 6, 2025 in order to receive award. The EDGE Post-Project Form will be sent to provisionally selected faculty at the end of each semester.
Conference Presentation/Publication Award Requirements:
- Completed an EDGE project within the past 12 months (September 2023 – present). Only projects reported using the EDGE Post-Project Form (New and Repeated) are considered completed projects.
- Submit the AY 2024-2025 EDGE Faculty Awards application form.
- Forward conference presentation/publication acceptance letter to Tracy.Coleman@psu.edu.
- Forward confirmed conference travel itinerary, conference registration receipt, or conference program listing faculty name and presentation title to Tracy.Coleman@psu.edu. (Required for conference presentation only.)
Conference Presentation/Publication Award Timeline:
If provisionally selected, award distribution begins no earlier than Thursday, October 3, 2024. Award distribution ends Monday, June 30, 2025.

EDGE Influencer Awards
Exclusively for Penn State Faculty
Description:
Up to $800 for professional development covering multiple conference or workshop registration fees.* Professional development must focus on COIL/virtual exchange, global learning, or intercultural knowledge and competence.
Examples include but are not limited to:
- AAC&U 2025 Forum on Digital Innovation
- April 4 – 5, 2025 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and online, $175 (virtual)/$349 (in-person)
- NAFSA Intercultural Communication in Practice Workshop
- September 24 – 26, 2025 online, $275 (members)/$400 (non-members)
- International Virtual Exchange Consortium (IVEC) Conference

October 15 – 17, 2025 in Heraklion, Greece and online, ~$180 (virtual)/~$400 (in-person)
- NAFSA Assessment and Evaluation for International Educators Workshop
- November 5 – 7, 2025 online, $275 (members)/$400 (non-members)
- AAC&U 2025 Global Learning Conference
- November 15 – 17, 2025 online; rate and event details forthcoming
*Registration fees only; travel expenses and organizational membership rates are not supported by this award.
Requirements:
- Host two EDGE-focused events for your campus community (one in Fall 2025 and one in Spring 2026)
- For example, organize a Lunch and Learn alongside the EDGE team
- Integrate an EDGE project into at least one of your courses during AY 2025-2026
- Submit EDGE Influencer completion form
